The
absolute highlight of my visit to the United States, spanning Sugar Land and
the Energy Corridor of Texas, beautifully unfolded on August 24, 2026. Nithya
Hari elegantly orchestrated a memorable program titled, ‘Special Meet and
Greet with Prema: Nithya Hari Sits Down with Prema for an Engaging Conversation
and Interview.’ It was a proud family milestone attended by myself, my wife
Vijayalakshmi, our second daughter Kinnera, son-in-law Kishan, granddaughter
Medha, and our son Aditya. Adding to the joy, Prema’s husband, my elder
son-in-law, also participated and even sang a beautiful song.
The
conversation envisioned as ‘Meet • Connect • Interact,’ transcended the
boundaries of a traditional Question and Answer. Nithya Hari displayed the full
spectrum of her multi-faceted brilliance as an interviewer, instantly bypassing
rigid formulas to create a deeply material, fluid conversation. Prema ‘The
Journalist’ met every conversational turn with the effortless poise, profound
depth, and sharp intellect of a seasoned media veteran, turning the evening
into an unforgettable cultural experience.
Nithya
Hari, a celebrated dance maestro, versatile artistic director, and charismatic
master of ceremonies, brought her trademark creative energy and sharp
intellectual curiosity to her role as the evening's moderator. Her instinctive
grasp of narrative flow allowed her to guide the event with exceptional grace,
transforming what could have been a standard retrospective into a living,
breathing work of art that captivated every attendee.
Prema,
being the distinguished, multi-award-winning electronic media dynamo, proud
recipient of two prestigious state Nandi Awards, a National Award, known for
her formidable reputation as an empathetic storyteller and fearless
documentarian responded brilliantly. Her presence transformed the stage into an
authoritative platform of lived wisdom, providing the perfect intellectual
counterpart to Nithya's dynamic questioning and setting the stage for an
extraordinary exploration of high-impact broadcast journalism.
With
masterful precision, Nithya’s targeted inquiries opened the floodgates to
Prema’s most unforgettable celebrity encounters. Prema spoke fondly of
interviewing megastar Chiranjeevi, a cinematic icon she had idolized since her
early school days. She shared profound lessons gathered from the legendary
writer Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, alongside engaging dialogues with Upasana
Kamineni Konidela, Genelia D'Souza, and visionary filmmakers Sandeep Reddy
Vanga and KV Anudeep.
The
depth of the discussion intensified as Nithya navigated the conversation toward
the gritty realities of hard-news journalism. Prema captivated the audience
with gripping behind-the-scenes tales of interviewing faction leaders, hardened
politicians, and her impactful work on the acclaimed Praja Paksham weekly show
for TV9. She vividly recalled the high-stakes atmosphere of interviewing Maoist
leaders when they were invited for peace talks during Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s
tenure as Chief Minister.
In
response to Nithya’s evocative questioning, Prema narrated her harrowing
journey to the remote helicopter crash site of the late Chief Minister, Dr YS
Rajasekhara Reddy. Despite her mother’s anxious, heavy warnings during the
torrential rains, Prema’s unyielding journalistic duty drove her onto a
helicopter to cover the unfolding tragedy firsthand. It stood as a powerful
testament to her bravery, beautifully spotlighted by Nithya’s innate ability to
draw out the core human sacrifices behind major breaking news.
The
dialogue reached a deeply poignant crescendo as Nithya explored the heavy
emotional toll of witnessing human suffering on the frontlines. Prema reflected
on several life-altering incidents that profoundly moved her, most notably her
experience covering the devastating, catastrophic Kurnool floods in Andhra
Pradesh. Her vivid descriptions of survival, loss, and resilience highlighted
her profound empathy as a storyteller. Nithya’s respectful, safe creative space
allowed Prema to share these heavy memories with immense dignity, illustrating
how a great journalist carries the heart of the community in her pen.
The
dialogue shifted toward societal transformation as Nithya explored the critical
themes of women empowerment and structural equity. Prema passionately
articulated that true progress requires moving beyond simple equality to
embrace genuine equity, where men and women intentionally share life's
responsibilities. She illustrated this philosophy through her own visionary
media initiative, Jayathi, which actively amplifies women's voices and
achievements. Referencing global movements like 'HeForShe': championed
effectively across Telangana and worldwide: she argued that the slogan for
empowerment must resonate even louder from men than from women.
With
profound sociological insight, Prema delivered a striking critique on the
survival mechanisms of modern patriarchy, captivating the entire room. She
firmly argued that systemic male dominance persists largely due to the passive,
conditioned support of women themselves, which must be consciously avoided. Her
call to action urged women to reject complicity and actively dismantle outdated
biases from within their own households and professional circles. Nithya’s moderation
allowed Prema’s radical honesty to shine, transforming a standard cultural
interview into a deeply empowering, intellectual manifesto.
Nithya
then elevated the evening by posing profound analytical and reflective
questions, asking her guest to critique the changing landscape of global media.
Prema met this high-level challenge with extraordinary philosophical depth,
offering a visionary perspective on truth, social algorithms, and the enduring
power of authentic storytelling. Her sophisticated commentary added immense
substance to the evening. Nithya’s ability to draw out such grand ideas, paired
with Prema’s intellectual eloquence, transformed the entire event into an
inspiring educational experience for all.
To
bring the memorable evening to a spectacular close, Nithya unleashed a barrage
of lightning-fast rapid-fire and forced-choice questions. Prema proved herself
to be incredibly sharp and spontaneous, flashing her trademark quick wit with
instantaneous, clever answers that left the audience laughing and applauding.
This exhilarating, fast-paced finale perfectly capped off a brilliant,
multi-layered tête-à-tête. It stood as a definitive testament to Nithya Hari’s
masterful orchestration and Prema’s unparalleled professional brilliance during
a truly landmark community celebration.
The
brand-new Desi District Market and Eatery in Cypress provided a spectacular,
grand venue that perfectly matched the unparalleled brilliance of its culinary
offerings. For our exclusive gathering of eight selected guests, the evening
transformed into a breathtaking revelation of avant-garde Indian cuisine.
Beyond familiar comfort staples like Idly, Dosa, Butter Naan, and Jalebi, the
menu introduced an entire gamut of sophisticated fusion delicacies. These were
modern flavor profiles completely unprecedented in our lifetime, expanding our
gastronomic horizons and leaving an indelible mark on our tastes.
The
mastermind behind this culinary marathon was Master Executive Chef Hamad
Amoodi, a remarkably talented, handsome, and endearingly modest culinary
prodigy. From 6:30 PM until 9:30 PM, he orchestrated an unrelenting symphony of
flavors, seamlessly sending out wave after wave of masterfully curated plates.
We found ourselves delightfully overwhelmed, struggling not only to do full
justice to his exquisite creations but also to catch a brief glimpse of the
elusive chef himself. It was only after his complete, ambitious menu was served
that he finally emerged to a standing ovation.
Ensuring
the evening's flawless rhythm was Deepthi, the incessantly active and deeply
affectionate director of the newly opened Cypress center. With her innate
hospitality, she expertly shifted our group's dynamic from eager anticipation
to pure culinary wonderment, making us feel completely at home. Alongside her,
a stellar hospitality team consisting of Dhanashri, Ritvik, and Venky worked in
perfect synchronization. Their collective dedication beautifully connected the
kitchen's artistry to our table, providing an elite, world-class dining
experience that beautifully complemented the historic milestones of our family
celebration.
The breathtaking sequence of dishes, which we formally catalogued only after Chef Hamad joined us on scene, showcased a brilliant balance of tradition and modern innovation. The spectacular menu featured traditional Idly and Dosa, followed by a brilliant Tandoor Cauliflower with red pepper hummus, and a Savory Paneer Thecha Croquette. Next came an inventive Bhindi Tart Chaat, Aloo Stuffed Paneer in rich tomato sauce, a delicate Poriyal Kofta Curry, and flaky Butter Naan. The grand finale peaked with a unique Arati Kaaya (Banana) Biryani, warm Jalebi, and a decadent San Sebastian Cheesecake.
