Telangana Chief Minister
and the Panchendriyas
Vanam Jwala Narasimha Rao
Honorable
Chief Minister Telangana State Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao has embarked upon
giving a new definition to the word, “Development.” For him, development would
not merely mean just laying roads, constructing bridges, buildings and other such
infrastructural activity. Development for the Telangana State CM is an overall
change in the living standards of the people in general and those oppressed and
depressed classes in particular.
The
Telangana state government, ever since it came to power in the new State, has
formulated several programs, projects and schemes for the betterment of the
people from poor Dalits to others. Apart
from other development and welfare measures, the CM has fixed a five point
agenda also as the most important objective of his government for the rest of
its tenure. CM firmly believes that this five point agenda will drastically
change the living standards of people in Telangana state for better. The five
issues have become the Panchendriyas
(five important senses) of the Telangana Government.
Distribution
of land to the landless Dalits is aimed at empowering the Dalit families who eke
out their living on agriculture by giving them three acres of agriculture land.
CM KCR has formally launched the scheme on the Independence Day on August 15 at
the state level celebrations held at the historic Golconda Fort. The same day,
in the districts, ministers have launched the scheme and distributed pattas to
the Dalits.
In the
first phase of the program, 423 people have received about 1141.60 acres of
land. Under the program, the state government is providing all the necessary
help to the beneficiary, from providing inputs and infrastructure facilities,
extending extension services to helping in getting the required funds.
The
Telangana Drinking Water Grid is another, first of its kind project in the
country, under which drinking water will be provided to each and every
household in the next five years. It is
calculated that about 50 TMC of water is needed for Hyderabad and 80 TMC for
rest of the state. The proposed cost of the project is Rs 25,000 crores.
Reviving
and restoring lakes and other natural water bodies is yet another important
program of the Telangana Government. Unless the lakes and water tanks are
revived, the Telangana state is not in a position to utilize about 265 TMC of
water from Krishna, Godavari Rivers under minor irrigation. There are about
45,000 tanks in the Telangana state. Efforts are on to remove all the
encroachments of the tanks. The state government is planning to invite people’s
participation in a big way to restore the water bodies.
To
increase the forest cover in the state which is at about 25 per cent, the state
government is planning to plant 250 crores saplings in the next three
years. Named as Haritha Haram, the program will be monitored by the forest
department which is the nodal agency. People are also encouraged to participate
in the program.
The fifth
on the top most agenda of CM is providing a two bed Room House to the weaker
sections. The state government has already ordered a CBCID investigation into
large scale irregularities that took place in the weaker sections housing under
the united AP Government. CM has
announced that a two bed room house will be built with a cost of Rs three lakh
each for the weaker sections and the government would bear all the expenses.
