Development of New National Highways in Telangana State .....CM KCR Statement in Legislative Assembly

Development of New National Highways in Telangana State
CM KCR Statement in Legislative Assembly
23-12-2016
I am pleased to inform the Honourable House that the Telangana State has achieved remarkable progress in making Government of India to agree for development of new National Highways in the State. This is a mile stone in achieving ‘Bangaru Telangana’. What the previous Government could not achieve in seven decades history could be achieved by our Government in the last two and half years with continuous persuasion and dedicated efforts.
Just as Telangana was subjected to discrimination in several sectors in the combined state, the same was continued in respect of National Highways also.  The NH network did not progress in the State as per the requirement of the time and has become a serious stumbling block in development of the State. After our Government came to power, we started efforts to change the situation. We brought to the notice of Government of India about the injustice done to Telangana region and submitted proposals to Government of India for upgradation of State Roads as new National Highways.
When Telangana State was formed we inherited 2,527 kms of National Highways with a density of 2.20 kms per 100 sq km area compared to 3.15 kms per 100 sq kms in Andhra Pradesh and National Average of 2.80 kms per 100 sq km area. Infact we were at the bottom in NH density in south India. Our Government has decided to reverse the situation and started efforts in that direction. We met the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Gadkheriji several times and requested for new National Highways. I met the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Union Minister personally and submitted the proposals in this regard.
The Government of India understood the rationality in our proposals and came forward to develop NH network in the State. As a result, in the last two and half years we succeeded in getting 2776 kms of new National Highways to the State. Here one remarkable aspect to be noted is that the Telangana State in the last two and half years could achieve an additional NH network of 2776 kms which is more than 2527 kms achieved in the last seven decades.

The details of newly upgraded National Highways are as follows.

As a result of this, I am proud to announce in the Honourable House that the NH length is increased in the State to 5303 kms. Today the NH density in the State is 4.62 kms per 100 sq km area against National average of 3.81 kms per 100 sq km area. I am also proud to announce in the Honourable House that the Telangana State which was at bottom among southern states in the NH density has crossed the National Average and stands today at the top among the southern states with a NH density of 4.62 kms per 100 sq km area.
Further, I am pleased to bring to the notice of this house that the Government of India has so far sanctioned Rs 2690 Cr worth of projects to our State during this financial year. We could also get Rs 1020 Cr sanctions under CRF for improvement of State Roads. Further, the Honourable Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkheriji has announced sanctioning the following four lane projects to be taken up by NHAI in the State at a cost of Rs 8,000 Cr. This is great news to the people of the State. The details of the four lane roads to be developed are:
Sangareddy-Nanded Road                           Rs 2,500 Crores
            Suryapet-Khammam Road                           Rs 1,000 Crores
           Jagityal-Karimnagar-Warangal Road           Rs 2,300 Crores
           Mancherial-Chandrapur Road                      Rs 1,500 Crores
           Kodad-Khammam Road                                Rs    700 Crores
Apart from the above achievements in NH sector, we have prepared proposals for development of interior roads along Godavari and Pranahitha rivers from Sarapaka in Kothagudem district to Kouthala in Komarambheem Asifabad district to Government of India.
I am pleased to bring to the notice of this house that the Government of India formally agreed to sanction these proposals.
Honourable members are aware that Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. The present outer ring road may not be sufficient in the times to come to the growing traffic needs of the fast expanding city. As such our Government has submitted proposals to Government of India for development of a regional ring road to four lane NH standards. The details of this regional ring road were already mentioned in the 19 roads above.
On this occasion, I convey my gratitude to Government of India for responding to our request for development of NHs in the State in this Honourable House. I convey my hearty congratulations to Honourable Members of Parliament, Honourable Minister for Roads & Buildings and R&B officials who have worked hard for achieving this success.
