AN ASYNCHRONOUS HISTORY SCRAPBOOK
PREFACE
By
Prof. M. Satyanarayan Rao
Societal problems are varied and defy any type
of fixed framework for analysis. More so the contemporary societal problems are
very difficult for analysis. Analyzing them one needs in-depth understanding,
study and an insight to see the depth of the problems. Then only the problems
can be analyzed. The present day society, particularly the educated gentry is
developing disinterestedness in reading and understanding the problems. The
earlier reading habit is now replaced by Internet and Television, wherein ready made analysis of contemporary problems are analyzed by experts in the
field and presented in a nut shell. Understanding the problem is one thing,
analyzing them is the second and finding readers is the final problem to the
authors. This does not mean that there are no serious readers to spare their
time to understand the varied social problems.
The speed with which educational and research institutions have sprang
up have not produced notable writers who concern themselves with the society in
which they are living. This is one aspect of understanding day to day societal
problems. Another aspect which is not visible but acts behind the curtains is
selecting and killing the analytical articles.
With all these difficulties Jwala’s appearance as a person concerned
with day to day problems is a kind of surprise for the elite readers. Born in a
traditional family with rural background and no one to pull him up in to
academic circles, he proved to be a person whom the present day gentry cannot
put out of their limited circles. His unpublicized courage made him a person
whom the surrounding society of whatever nature cannot put him aside. With
small and humble beginnings as Librarian he rose to the level of rubbing
shoulders with noteworthy politicians, authors, journalists with spontaneous
recognition of his talents. If we make a close examination of life and work, we
will not come to a judgment of him as a great personality to put his articles
on paper and compile in to a book. His articles which contained the analysis of
problems have gained an important place for being published in a book form.
Here lies his courage to speak out, work out whenever he feels the findings of
his observations about whether contemporary politics, health problems, or score
about different aspects. This book contains 87 articles majority of which were
already published in various sources running in to 500 pages. One needs the
courage and will power to publicize whatever he thought of his contemporary
society. Jwala proved this courage and will power.
As a matter of fact this collection of articles can be classified
under different heads and published as different books, but Jwala had the
courage to come out with his scrap of papers on different subjects. This idea
reveals the mind of the author who wants to have his imprint on the future
generations to study about the past.
The problems he touched defy any kind of
classification into parts. This only reveals his concern of his mind about what
he saw and what he experienced. As a matter of fact many of the present day
notable social gentry are confining themselves with a convenience but not in
depth analysis of what they are seeing. Jwala is daring enough to come out
openly that, this is his mind about the society in which he is living. A lot of
articles are on handicrafts, political events, political personalities and
similar other aspects which shows his varied interests of study and analysis of
the subject. Many a writers are not courageous enough to put on paper what they
saw and observed. Jwala has the guts to analyze and put on paper and the result
is this book “AN
ASYNCHRONOUS HISTORY SCRAPBOOK”. Jwala in Telugu language means flame from
fire. The name given to him is an indicator of his readiness to face any issue
and try to analyze for finding some solutions.
If an attempt
is made to classify, analyze all his articles it will become another small book
which I do not want to try. Just I would like to add that the articles of Jwala
are the “torches” to hold and find a path in the darkness. In his analysis he
never hesitated to point out defects or shortcomings in the subjects he
touched. Some are constructive articles and some are estimates of current
problems and personalities. In whatever manner the subject which he touched,
his sincerity and same kind of approach is visible. While writing probably he
may not have an inclination or thought to publish as a book. After writing and
coming to a stage in his life, to expose his efforts and personal view points,
he might have thought of publishing. When many of the present day politicians
and social leaders are not carrying out with their thoughts, it is appreciable
effort from Jwala to be on book shelf of a serious reader.
Each of these
87 articles is independent of each other. There is no continuity of subject.
The reader can use his choice to select the reading and he will find a
satisfactory understanding of the subject as a whole. This is the peculiarity
of this scrapbook. As the name suggests it is not a scrap but a “Treasure” of
immense information of the subjects analyzed. Here lies the uniqueness of this
so called scrapbook. It is not scrap but it is a collection of well thought out
in depth study, analysis and presentation to understanding. Though “scrap” is
the name the information will be very much useful for those who are preparing
themselves for any competitive examinations.
Jwala needs a
pat on his back for his effort to come out with his collection of articles titled
“AN ASYNCHRONOUS HISTORY SCRAPBOOK” in to the arena of public life.
